About Dr. Smith
Dr. Smith has gained valuable experience working in a variety of mental health settings, including community mental health centers, hospitals, and private practice. He completed his practicum training at two community mental health centers in the the greater Los Angeles area. He completed his assessment training at Los Angeles County + University of Southern California Medical Center in Los Angeles, California. Dr. Smith completed his Pre-Doctoral Internship at Children's Institute in Los Angeles. He completed his Post-Doctoral Internship at Vanderbilt Psychiatric Hospital in Nashville, Tennessee. Following completion of his Post-Doctoral Internship, he began his private practice in the Atlanta area.
Dr. Smith believes in the importance of giving clients practical solutions and skills to create change in their lives. As such, he begins couples therapy by providing concrete couples communication and conflict reductions skills and approaches individual therapy primarily from a
cognitive-behavioral therapy model for addressing and reducing symptoms
of anxiety, depression, OCD, PTSD, and anger. He also utilizes psychodynamic, family systems, and brief solution-focused therapy approaches in individual, couples and family therapy. He strives to integrate faith and psychological principles in therapy in a manner that is tailored to the client.
Dr. Smith is a member of the Georgia Psychological Association, where he has previously served as a board member and was selected for the inaugural Georgia Psychological Association Leadership Training Program. He is also a member of the American Association of Christian Counselors.
